Therapeutic Massage

What to Expect

For your first treatment, try to come in 10-15 minutes early to ensure that filling out your Health History form does not take up any of your treatment time. Once the paperwork is complete, you will be brought into a clinic room for a quick consultation to determine the best treatment plan for you. I will then leave the room, allowing you to get ready on the massage table in privacy. After knocking to check that you are ready, I will re-enter the room and conduct your treatment. All back massages are followed up with a hot towel to further relax your muscles and clean up excess lotion. Once your treatment is complete I will leave the room, at which point you can get up and dressed again. You can then open the door, and I will re-enter the room and go over home care recommendations.

Prenatal Massage

As a woman goes through pregnancy her body goes through a variety of changes, and massage can help to alleviate some of the pain caused by these changes. Ligaments in the lower back begin to loosen as time goes on, which can cause pain throughout the hips and back. During the first trimester, there is limited work that can be done on this, but by the second and third trimesters, deeper work can be performed on some parts of the low back and hips to release tension and relieve some of the low back pain. Added stresses during pregnancy also frequently cause more tension to build up in the shoulders, which can be treated in much the same way as it would be in a regular treatment.

To help make the treatment as comfortable as possible I use a pregnancy pillow in my prenatal massages, which in most cases allows the pregnant woman to comfortably lay face-down for the majority of the massage. This helps to put the back in a more neutral position and makes it easier to relax.

All of that being said, the treatment is about what you want and what is comfortable to you. It is still your choice what areas you would like to have worked on when you come in. If you’re undecided about whether or not you should come in you can always feel free to give me a call so that we can discuss your specific needs.
